New Wastewater Treatment Plant
On December 4th, 2023, it was announced that the City of Kimberley will build a new wastewater treatment plant after a combined investment of more than $90.6 million from federal, provincial, and municipal governments.
The new plant will replace the aging Pollution Control Centre, built in 1967. Once complete, the plant will provide Kimberley with high-quality, reliable wastewater treatment that minimizes potential environmental impact on the St. Mary River and communities downstream.
Currently in the Pre-Validation/ Validation stage, the project leads are following the Integrated Project Delivery contract method to build the new wastewater treatment plant. There are several stages to this method, including Pre-Validation - which involves setting up the project team and defining the project scope; Validation - the process of confirming the project design, budget, and schedule; and Construction - the actual construction of the project up to and including commissioning. Currently, the project is in the pre-validation phase.
