The City of Kimberley is committed to identifying, eliminating, and preventing barriers to accessibility within the city. In accordance with the Accessible British Columbia Act, the City has established an Accessibility Advisory Committee and developed an Age-Friendly Accessibility Plan. These two resources will guide accessibility improvements in Kimberley for years to come.

The Accessible British Columbia Act, enacted in June 2021 and followed by the Accessible British Columbia Regulation in September 2022, provides a framework to improve accessibility throughout the province.

The Act defines accessibility broadly, recognizing the diverse challenges faced by individuals with accessibility needs. These can include limitations in vision, movement, cognition, learning, communication, hearing, mental health, and social relationships. The Act's core objective is to advance inclusive communities where all residents can participate fully in work, recreation, and daily activities.

Kimberley faces unique challenges and opportunities related to accessibility. Guided by universal design principles and the Accessible British Columbia Act, the City of Kimberley is undertaking a proactive approach to assess and plan for accessibility improvements that benefit the entire community. This initiative underscores the City of Kimberley's dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where residents and visitors alike can thrive regardless of ability.
