Kimberley is Crowned by CBC as BC's Best Small Town
Kimberley has come out on top of CBC’s Search for BC’s Best Small Town! After almost 7 weeks of voting, Kimberley beat out 127 other municipalities to claim the title. You can watch the full CBC News Broadcast and Kimberley Celebration on CBC's YouTube account!
Launched in March 2022, the competition garnered over 800,000 votes across the province. BC municipalities with fewer than 12,000 people faced off against each other by region until it came down to the semi-finals and finals. Kimberley narrowly beat out Invermere, Rossland, Fernie, Nelson, Osoyoos, Smithers and Ucluelet during the event.
“Kimberley really engaged with this competition and it’s been a lot of fun to be a part of,” said Mayor Don McCormick. “Our community has been hit hard this past winter not only due to the pandemic but also the fact that Kimberley experienced two arson events, one at the Gymnastics Centre and another that took out our main ski lift for the entire season. This contest became a real rallying point for the community. It’s not only great for Kimberley but for the Kootenays in general!”
The final vote took place on Monday, April 25th and Kimberley was crowned this morning on air on local CBC Radio One stations across the province. CBC Municipal Affairs Reporter Justin McElroy and the CBC team is in Kimberley’s Platzl today for the CBC television news broadcast at 7:00 pm.
