Weather
The East Kootenay region is expected to stay under the influence of an upper ridge through Saturday. Over the past 24 hours, different areas of the Bootleg Complex received varying amounts of precipitation.
Today, we can expect mid- to high-level cloud cover, along with some smoke moving in from the western part of the province. Temperatures are expected to gradually warm to around 30°C, with a slight increase in relative humidity.
There is still a chance of thunderstorms and lightning across the region tonight, with the possibility of additional precipitation. Winds are also expected to pick up gradually between today and Saturday as a potential cold front approaches. Sustained winds are forecast to reach 15–22 km/h today, with gusts of 30–40 km/h possible this afternoon..

As a follow-up to the previous press release on the fire that occurred at the Kimberley Public Works Yard on Christmas Eve, we would like to provide additional information to the community.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. today, the Kimberley Fire Department responded to a fire at the Public Works Yard. Fire crews arrived quickly and were able to contain and extinguish the fire.
The Kimberley Fire Department is currently managing a fire at the City’s Public Works Yard. The situation is under control, and there have been no injuries reported.
Due to unexpected mechanical issues with the collection truck, the Route C garbage pickup scheduled for today, December 18th, will be delayed to tomorrow, Friday, December 19th.
We are currently addressing a water main break in the area surrounding Selkirk Secondary School. The school and homes within the area outlined on the attached map are affected.
